The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) Cathode Materials Specialist to help develop affordable advanced superior lithium polymer battery (SLPB) technology for the hybrid and electric vehicle markets. Dow recently announced plans to construct a new $600 million, 800,000 square foot facility to produce SLPB's in Midland, Michigan in order to supply the automotive industry and power the next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles. This new battery plant is expected to produce enough batteries to supply 60,000 hybrid or electric vehicles per year, create more than 800 new "green collar" jobs and help the state and U.S. economies meet their employment, energy and environmental goals.
This LIB Cathode Materials Specialist will be responsible for the development of novel cathode materials for lithium ion batteries and commercialization of HPL LiMnPO4cathode material. This individual will also identify solutions to lifetime issues, develop and commercialize next generation cathode technologies and lead Dow R&D efforts for development of next generation cathode materials. This role will work closely with other Dow chemists and engineers to develop IP portfolios.
This position requires a PhD in inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, material science or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the energy storage industry. Experience in development/commercialization of LIB cathode materials is also required. Industry knowledge of competitive and state-of-the-art cathode materials, and project management experience strongly desired.
